Cognate Aperture — clean high/low cuts, tone shaping, gentle warmth — all in one block. A transparent low cut (high-pass) and high cut (low-pass) paired in a single block, with emphasis cut and boost and an optional touch of tape saturation on the output. Use it for everything from gentle framing of the frequency range to creative and dramatic filter effects. The two filters tame rumble and smooth the top end. Emphasis adds musical body or air around each corner, and Warmth contributes subtle, level-compensated tape character on the way out. We took our filter design from Cognate Kinetic and expanded it with five selectable slopes: off, 12, 24, 36 or 48 dB/oct. At 12 dB/oct you get a gentle rolloff with a flat passband and minimal phase change. Push it up to 48 dB/oct for a hard cut with surgical precision. The Emphasis controls voice each corner musically — a small body scoop or low-end bloom around the low cutoff, a tame or air around the high one. Proportional-Q bells positioned away from the corner, so cuts read as tone shaping, not a second rolloff. Warmth adds anti-aliased, tape-style saturation on the output. Level-compensated so it never pushes you into clipping — the higher you turn it, the more analogue thickening and sweetening you get without losing headroom. The sound of mixing into a touch of tape; at zero, the path is exactly clean. With steeper slopes, higher corner boosts and the frequency swept from an expression pedal or Quickpot binding, you're into dramatic DJ-style filtering and synth-wah effects.
