About
The best-sounding freeze for bass.
Built for the Stage
Smooth & natural captures on electric, fretless, and upright. Hold a note or chord beneath what you play next.
Hear Hold It beside the EHX Deep Freeze
Adjust Speed for quick or gradual transitions, shape the held tone with Low Cut, High Cut, and Tilt. Use Life to add natural movement without obvious chorus or repeating modulation.
Hold It uses only about 1% DSP, leaving most of Anagram's processing power available.
Use One Footswitch or Two
Choose the control method that fits how you play.
- Latch mode using one or two Anagram footswitches.
- Momentary mode via MIDI: press to capture, release to clear. Tested with Morningstar MC6 and M-VAVE Chocolate+.
Reviewers liked the easy setup and user experience.
Real DSP Engineering
We built out the foundation using the Electro-Harmonix Deep Freeze as our reference. Then we developed new DSP algorithms to mirror your bass's natural sound:
- Carefully selecting samples that represent the true note played,
- Recreating the decay and sustain of a bass string,
- Introducing imperfections without the telltale fingerprint of a chorus effect ("Life" control),
- Auto-calibrating EQ for every sustained note ("Tilt" control).
As we worked, we tracked our progress on electric (fretted & fretless, active & passive), and upright (pizzicato and arco).
Practice Makes Permanent
Use your own bass as the drone.
Freeze a reference pitch and play against the sustained sound through your normal rig. This makes fretless and upright intonation practice much more enjoyable.
Be inspired to practice with corporate-approved messaging.
Additionally, Hold It tracks the notes you capture, creating a live report and visualizations.

The sound of the captured note is quite nice. It has a way of avoiding capturing strong noise or other anomalies and it works very well. I have the EHX Superego and that's my basis for comparison. The Superego has a few effects that this block doesn't do, but for sample and hold, this one meets or exceeds for usability. I use a MIDI controller and a 3 button setup. I map a capture button and an end button like their manual suggests. The third button captures on press and triggers the end button on release so it functions like a momentary switch, which is the main way I use the Superego.
